Turtle’s Cholesterol Count
Sunday, July 19th, 2009There’s a turtle that lives in my backyard. I’ve been trying to get him to eat a healthier diet but he doesn’t care for it.
I’m not sure what turtles are supposed to eat but I know they eat bugs. I don’t really keep any bugs handy in the fridge so the turtle mostly eats what I eat. However, he doesn’t eat a lot of the veggies I give him. He’ll eat some, but usually he’ll eat the meat and cheese first and leave the veggies for last if at all.

He's a nice turtle, sometimes sociable when people come over.

The buffet table has turkey, bell pepper, cheese, and left over burrito meat.
This gets me worried. In my mind, he should be eating a well rounded diet. Instead, he likes cheese a lot and no lettuce. Will this raise his cholesterol? is that a problem among turtles? Does this matter at all?
I’ll do some research on it but I’m in no hurry. He seems happy and healthy. He usually will come to me if I call him. He did hiss at me once when I gave him only vegetables and no cheese. (I gave him cheese and he seemed to warm up).
