Fan Art from the Cave

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Back in, oh… I think it was 2001, I read the book “Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jane Auel. Oftentimes, when I enjoy a book, I’ll draw the characters out so that I know who’s who – especially with a book like this where the characters have odd names.

I had some fun with this particular group. I drew these on 3″x5″ note cards and painted them with water color. I sent these ones to my mom with the book. She liked them very much so I know they’re good because she’s obviously completely objective and unbiased toward my work.

Anyways, I was recently at someone’s house and noticed a stack of Earth’s Children books(that’s the series name). I remembered these sketches and decided to revisit them and post them here as fan art (click on the thumbnail images below to view larger). I encourage you to go to your local bookstore and purchase a copy of this book. Ms. Auel does a fantastic job bringing this world and these characters to life. I have since read book two “The Valley of the Horses” and I am hoping to start up book three “The Mammoth Hunters” soon.

Updated Character Portraits!

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

For those who may not know, I also illustrate the online graphic novel Attack Mimes. Trevor, the writer, and I have agreed to take a week off so that I may focus on some other items of interest. Once such item is an updated Characters Page

Click on a portrait below and check out the space-age lightbox technology (thanks to the help of my buddy J. Lopez)! Of course, you could still go to the Characters Page for a the official bio of each character if you like. I tried to squeeze the bio in the lightbox when it popped up but it cut off the text. Apparently that sort of technology only exists in television shows from the past about the future.

Sketchbook – A slightly more realistic Moxy

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

For the most part, my sketchbooks are used for practice drawings. Rarely do I sit and just draw in one. But, as I peruse webcomic sites, one of my favorite features is their sketchbook drawings. I admire the work greatly.

I decided to sit down at a coffee shop and just make out a sketch. I opted for a drawing of Moxy but in a more realistic fashion. Hope you like it!
