The whole idea of a Venus Fly Trap is odd to me.
Why does one plant need “meat” while another doesn’t?
I guess we could also ask why one human needs meat and another doesn’t.

Comparing Venus Fly Traps- a plant that has evolved to “eat” insects- to human vegetarians, people who have given up eating meat (some to the point that eating it would make them sick as their stomach can’t handle it, but they once could) isn’t really the same. The main reason for the plant is that they grow in areas with very nutrient poor soil so have evolved to get the nutrients from insects. If you place a Venus Fly Trap in nutrient rich soil and nutrient rich water, it will stop eating insects.

Fantastic! Thanks for the knowledge. I don’t want them to stop eating insects though. It’s more fun knowing they do.
